Dorcas E. Broaddus Biggs, 85, of Willard, passed away Thursday morning, January 1, 2009, at 1:50 a.m., in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, following an extended illness. Dorcas was born in Springfield and grew up there, graduating from Springfield Senior (Central) High School in 1941. She was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company as a service representative for 20 years. She moved to the Willard area in 1960. She was very active in civic organizations including the Ladies Tuesday Club, Willard Garden Club and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was an active member of Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with the Presbyterian Women. Dorcas E. Broaddus and John T. Biggs were united in marriage on July 9, 1960. Together they were privileged to share over 39 years. John preceded her in death on September 9, 1999. Also preceding her were her parents; and step-son, John T. Biggs Jr. She is survived by two cousins, Herb and wife, Marilyn Bockhorst of Springfield, and their daughter, Julie Hobart, and Olivia and husband, Tom Ferrell of Ozark; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Biggs of St. Louis; three step-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily and John T. Biggs III; and her loving caretaker for over eight years, Paula Clouston. Services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009, at 2 p.m., in Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Willard, Mo., with Rev. Lorraine Dill officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley Cemetery, Willard, Mo., under the care and direction of Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Mo. Friends may call Sunday afternoon, in the Ash Grove Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Mo., from 2 to 5:50 p.m. Family will receive friends on Monday, from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Alzheimers Association or Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Willard, Mo.
